Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you to all of the families who helped out with the Campus Clean-Up on Saturday! The garden, staff room, and other common areas all look amazing. Seeing the newly spruced up garden on Saturday really made me want to do a final planting project with the students. We've been so busy lately with our new Force and Motion unit (we made and tested out paper helicopters on Friday!), but I'm determined to squeeze in the gardening somehow!

There are only a few short weeks left in the school year, and I want to let you know about some important upcoming dates:
5/18 (Mon): Kindergarten Graduation Photos
It's almost time for graduation, which means our kindergarteners are going to pose for some cap and gown photos! One of our awesome Dragon parents (Dan - Kali's dad!) will be taking the photos for us this year. We've got the caps and gowns and tassels ready...I can't wait to see how the students look! :)
5/21-5/22 (Thu-Fri): ELLOPA
ELLOPA is our annual oral proficiency assessment. It focuses on speaking and listening, and allows the school to keep a record of the annual progress made by each student. This year, the Dragon students are scheduled for ELLOPA on Thursday and Friday of this week. I will be administering the assessment, which means that there will be a substitute teacher for those two days.
6/1-6/5 (Mon-Fri): Final Reading Assessment
During the first week of June, I will meet individually with each student for a final reading assessment. This will focus on the core characters covered throughout the past year. Please check this page for a PDF of all of the kindergarten core characters.
6/12 (Fri): Kindergarten Graduation
This year's graduation will be an interactive experience with the audience, and I hope to see many of you there! Each student will also be walking up individually to accept an official diploma and to take a photo with Principal Laura.
6/17 (Wed): Field Day
This year's Field Day will take place on Wednesday, June 17th. All families are invited! I will have more details as we get closer to the date of the event.
6/19 (Fri): Final Report Cards
The third trimester report cards will be handed out on the last day of school. If you will be leaving for summer vacation before the last day, your child's report card will be mailed to your home. There are no parent-teacher conferences for this set of report cards, but please feel free to schedule an individual appointment with me in advance if you have any specific questions or concerns.
6/19 (Fri): Beach Day!
Weather permitting, we will be having a beach-themed day to celebrate the last day of kindergarten! Students are welcome to bring (or wear) swimwear on that day. We are not planning to get completely soaked, but please pack an extra set of clothing (including socks and underwear!) just in case!
Whew! That's a lot of dates and information. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding the events listed above. Have a wonderful week!
Best regards,
Suen Lao Shi 孫老師
