Dear Parents and Guardians,
It's an eventful week for the Dragon students! We are starting a new science unit, celebrating the 50th day of kindergarten, and dressing up for Halloween. All in the same week!
On Monday, we finished up our plants unit in science and began our new unit on animals. We will be exploring the needs of animals and the ways that animals change their habitats to meet those needs. On Tuesday, the Dragon students took part in an hour-long earthworm lab in the classroom. We used our eyes to look for the physical characteristics of worms, and used our hands (and arms) to feel the bristles on the worms. We conducted some experiments to see (1) if worms prefer a bright or dark environment, (2) if they prefer a wet or dry environment, and (3) if they can "smell" food (apple/banana peels) and chemicals (soap) nearby. We all had a great time, and learned a lot about worms! On Thursday, we will build "worm hotels" for our wiggly guests using sand, soil, and empty 2-liter bottles.

This Wednesday marks the 50th day of kindergarten! We will be celebrating in class with all sorts of math activities and games. I can't believe that we've already hit the 50-day mark! This year is really flying by!
This Friday will be Halloween! We will be having a costume parade on Friday morning at 8:20am. Depending upon the weather, we will either walk around the block or all the way to the field near the Herzog campus. Parents are welcome to walk with us and take photos!
Other info and reminders:
PUMPKIN PATCH PHOTOS
First of all, thank you to all of our wonderful parent chaperones for helping out with this field trip! It was great to have so many parents with us that day, and it definitely helped to make the field trip a smooth experience for all. Pictures from the trip can be found here.
READ-A-THON - November 7 to November 16
I have changed around the times a bit for the parent read-alouds! We will not have English class that week, so I have switched a few of our lunchtime slots. I apologize for any inconvenience. Please sign up here for a date and time. If you would like to read but cannot come during the designated time slots, please let me know and we can try and find an alternate option for you.
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES - November 11 to November 14
Please sign up here for an appointment for our first round of parent-teacher conferences. Also, I encourage all parents to email me a list of specific questions and concerns BEFORE the day of the conference. This way, I can make sure that we use our time wisely and cover as many of your questions as possible!
Hope you all have a wonderful week!
Best regards,
Suen Lao Shi 孫老師
